2025 Plant Sale Preview
Dale Skaggs, Director of Horticulture, Dixon Gallery and Gardens
Dale Skaggs, a native Memphian, holds a BS degree in Horticulture from Oregon State University and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Oregon. Returning to Memphis in 2005, he served as the Shelby County Horticultural Extension agent with the University of Tennessee, coordinating the Master Gardener program. Since 2007, Dale has directed horticulture at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, revitalizing numerous gardens including those surrounding the Bowlin stage and the Farnsworth Arts and Education Building. He prioritizes plant collections and has led garden tours to England, France, and Italy. Dale frequently lectures on horticultural topics, writes monthly columns for the Commercial Appeal and At Home Memphis magazine, and has served as president of the Memphis Horticultural Society. He has received the Horticulture Commendation award from the Garden Club of America and has been commissioned for landscape designs by prominent Memphians.
Wednesdays can be especially busy at Park and Cherry. If you're attending Munch and Learn, please plan ahead and place your lunch orders early. To reduce disruptions during the lecture, guests are asked to bring their own food from the cafe to the auditorium. You may request to-go containers to make the trip to your seat easier.
