Exhibition Lecture: Hidden in Plain Sight: Reconsidering the South’s Role in Modern American Art
July 14, 2024
2:00pm - 3:00pm
Dr. Jonathan Stuhlman, Senior Curator of American Art Mint Museum
Exhibition curator Dr. Jonathan Stuhlman will discuss how Southern/Modern was conceived and organized, and introduce the key artists and themes found in the show. He will share new discoveries, reintroduce some familiar names, and make the case that, despite its relative absence from most narratives of American art history, the South and the diverse range of talented artists working there created significant and engaging works of art, made important contributions to their field, and merit more careful consideration both within and outside of our region.
