The Dixon and Creative Aging have partnered to develop Senior Courses, a series of four-week-long art classes that focus on specific media. Supplies are included.

Colorcopia
Dixon staff hosts free art classes for seniors at libraries and other community organizations in the Memphis area. These classes use different themes to teach various art-making techniques throughout the year. Sessions can be customized for in-person or virtual learning with consideration for current health and safety recommendations and the organization’s preference.

Tingey Painting with Parkinson’s Program (TINCAN™)
This free art therapy program supports people living with Parkinson's. The weekly sessions encourage participants to freely explore art materials and work without interruption while listening to meditative music. The purpose is to bring relief from symptoms and improve well-being.

Important skills in a Docent:
- Enthusiasm for art, art history, history, and community engagement
- Effective interpersonal abilities
- Practiced communication
- Continuous learning
- Access to email and digital communication
- Complete and pass a background check
- Multi-lingual is a plus
Additionally, applicants should be open to commit for one year, for at least 5 hours per month of training and interpretation. Must be available during the following 10-week training course:
