Visual art unites with culinary history! “The Artful Teapot” is the most comprehensive exhibition of its kind to date. It approaches the teapot from a protean art form, with the uncanny ability to be all things – decorative, useful, elegant, outrageous, and avant-garde. The Kamms’ extensive collection is comprised of rare treasures from the past, but mostly of one-of a-kind commissioned works from both the crafts and fine arts worlds.
What makes this collection so significant is the magic of the teapot. It holds clues to social station, to manners and protocols, to matters of gender, to fashion and stylization in popular art. It is stained with the blood of the West’s insatiable thirst for the fragrant leaves, and also graced by civilized, charming social rituals. All of this reference is compacted into a small pot with a handle and spout.
